Say Goodbye to Your Body Acne

Acne can plague people from adolescence all the way through adulthood, and it doesn’t stop at your face. Body acne can cause a whole host of self-esteem issues.

Change Your Body Wash

Though we tend to associate acne with teenagers, hormones aren’t always the cause of acne. One of the most common acne triggers is right in your shower! Your body wash may be one of the root causes of your body acne. Before switching body wash, consult with your dermatologist to see if it could be the cause of acne and to make sure you don’t choose another body wash with ingredients that will hurt your skin. Try a body wash with ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid to aid in clearing up your acne.

Shower After a Workout

Exercise is one of the best stress relievers in the world. Unfortunately, it could also be contributing to your body acne if you’re not careful. Even the best acne treatment can only do so much if you’re sitting around in sweaty, dirty clothes after every workout. The best course of action is to shower right away once you’re done exercising. Not only can this help prevent body acne, it can help you feel relaxed and refreshed after a good sweat session.

Wash Your Clothes and Accessories

Just as we don’t want to sit around in sweaty clothes after a workout, we don’t want to continue to wear the same clothes and accessories without washing them.

Backpacks and purses are typically not something you think to throw in the wash, but hand cleaning them can help your shoulder or back acne as the straps carry tons of oil and dirt overtime. This can easily end up on your body causing further issues.

Find a Better Moisturizer

Moisturizing daily is a crucial part of any skincare routine. That being said, your moisturizer may also be contributing to your body acne if you’re not using the right moisturizer. If you have oily, combination, or sensitive skin and you’re using a comedogenic moisturizer, you’re setting your skin up for failure. Find a non-comedogenic moisturizer that won’t clog your pores.

Not sure what skin type you have? Consult with your dermatologist and find a moisturizer that meets your skin’s needs without contributing to your body acne. In many cases, you’ll want to use a non-comedogenic body lotion. A certain scent or other ingredient within your moisturizer may be to blame.

Just remember that learning how to get rid of acne on your body is a journey and it may take a few tries before you find a moisturizer that works best for you!
